Food was served warm. Carne adovado had one large piece of fat.....really would not bother. There are too many good restaurants in the area. Really an unhappy experience.

What can I say.....I needed to burn some time and I was hungry. Never ate here before so thought I would give it a try. I was not dissapointed. Food was great. Service was wonderful. I will be eating here again. Maybe soon.

After running some errands in town, we decided to give one of the Los Compas restaurants a try for lunch. The interior decor is very nice. I had the gordita plate and my wife had the chicken fajitas plate. Both lunches were good, but I have had better gorditas in town. The chicken fajitas plate was actually better tasting then my entree. Service was just okay, but other tables with a different waiter/waitress seemed to fare better. Nothing happened that would keep us from returning again to one of their locations.

Best smothered burrito I've ever had!!! Green chili is hot and so good! Atmosphere is very nice. Even the chips and salsa are good.

I was in town on business for two weeks, staying just a block away from Los Compas, and I probably ate dinner there 8 times or so. Delicious, simple, honest Mexican food. Nothing glamorous, but you don't pay glamorous prices either. I highly recommend the steak picado. Add an over-easy egg on top, and you have a meal worth writing about... Which is where I find myself currently. The waitstaff is excellent and attentive. They remembered me and my order each time I returned. Just phenomenal. If you come to Las Cruces, do yourself a favor, and stop by Los Compas.

Very disappointing. We had just arrived in Las Cruces for a medical treatment and this was close by. We got the fajitas and the meat was tough and chewy and the guacamole was watered down. The waitstaff seemed like they were drugged and out of it, and quite blase. The atmosphere is lackluster. We all felt sick after we ate here. Avoid if you can!

The food here is average for the area, however what makes this place a 2 is the SLOW service. Any time of day, regardless of how busy they are, it takes a minimum of an hour to eat and get out. If your not in a hurry, or have lots of time on your hands, this place is for you!

We've eaten at Los Compas many times, especially lunch and dinner at the original location on Nevarez. We've always found it decent (especially the carne adovada) and it is definitely inexpensive. This review concerns my recent breakfast experience at the Commerce location. Simply put, it was perhaps the worst breakfast I have ever had. For starters, the breakfast menu was very limited, consisting of burritos and a few egg dishes. I was in the mood for some spicy authentic Mexican so I ordered the machaca. Machaca is supposed to be a moist and savory shredded or pounded beef and it is often served in fluffy scrambled eggs for breakfast. So, that's what I ordered. The meal started with chips and salsa, which I love for breakfast. But, the salsa was unusually flavorless and very watery. It was so watery I really could not get any good chilies on my chips, which made me sad. But then I got even sadder when my meal arrived. The plate consisted of 4 ingredients: the eggs/meat scramble and refried beans with a few cheese shreds on top. The beans were decent, and as it turned out this was all I really ate. The big disappointment was the machaca. Instead of moist glistening fluffy eggs mixed with savory shredded beef, perhaps with some added zing such as onions or jalapenos, instead what I got was a hard piece of leather--seriously. It took one look at the eggs to see how the whole terrible meal unfolded. The eggs had been well beaten and poured onto the grill over some dry shredded beef. Then, the cook just let it sit there until it was brown underneath and then flipped like a pancake until the other side was brown. So, what I got was a totally dried out overcooked disk of egg and meat. It could not be eaten with a fork. Indeed, my knife could not really even cut it apart. My guess is that the cook (and obviously the manager too) has no idea what a properly cooked scrambled egg is supposed to look like. Good thing Gordon Ramsey did not walk in this day.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
